Welcome
The Civil Protection Volunteers Group of Genzano di Roma is a public service of the Municipality. We help citizens before, during and after emergencies — earthquakes, floods, wildfires, severe weather. Our work is volunteer and free.

📞 Emergency number
For any emergency in Italy, call:
📞 Call 112112 is the European Single Emergency Number. It is:
- Free, even without credit on your SIM
- Available across the European Union
- Connected to fire brigade, ambulance, police and Carabinieri
- Working without app or internet
When the operator answers, say:
- What happened (accident / fire / medical / crime)
- Where you are (street, number, town)
- If anyone is hurt
Stay calm, speak slowly, do not hang up until the operator does.
🌍 Earthquake
Italy is a seismic country. Genzano is in seismic zone 2B (medium hazard). If you feel shaking:
- Take cover under a sturdy table or against an interior wall
- Cover your head with your hands
- Stay where you are until the shaking stops
- Do not run outside immediately
- Do not use elevators
- Stay away from windows and bookcases
After the shaking, exit calmly through stairs and reach the closest "Area di Attesa" (waiting area). See the map of waiting areas.
🌧️ Heavy rain & flooding
The Castelli Romani area is exposed to intense rainfall (especially May-October). If a strong storm or flood is expected:
- Stay indoors at upper floors
- Avoid basements and underground parking
- Do not drive through flooded underpasses
- Do not approach rivers or torrents
- Move valuables and electrical equipment to higher floors
Check the official weather alert at Lazio Region.
🔥 Fire
If you see smoke or flames:
- Call 112 immediately
- Leave the building through stairs (never use elevators)
- Close doors behind you (slows the fire spread)
- Stay low if there is smoke (cleaner air near the floor)
- Do not go back for belongings
For wildfires (June-September is high risk in Lazio), report immediately by calling 112.
⛈️ Thunderstorms
Sudden intense storms with lightning are common in summer. During a storm:
- Stay indoors
- Close windows and unplug appliances
- Do not shelter under trees
- Do not swim in pools or lakes
- Avoid rivers and underpasses
📦 Emergency kit at home
Keep a small backpack ready with:
- Bottled water (3 liters per person)
- Long-life food (biscuits, energy bars)
- Flashlight with spare batteries
- Thermal blanket and whistle
- Phone charger
- Important medications
- Copy of ID documents
- Cash (small amount)
📱 IT-alert
Italy has a national alert system called IT-alert. In case of major emergency it sends a loud message directly to all phones in the affected area, even without app, internet, or signal from your provider. The message is in Italian and English. More info: it-alert.it.
🗺️ Where to go in emergency
Genzano has 10 designated waiting areas (Aree di Attesa) where citizens should gather after a major event. They are open public spaces, marked with signs. Find the closest to your home or hotel before an emergency happens.
